Should You Contact Insurance Company After Accident?
Insurance companies usually don’t have your best interests in mind. They are supposed to serve their clients and handle claims everyday. But sometimes even after filing a claim, your insurance company will refuse to pay out on your claim or make a mistake along the way.
After a car accident, you should immediately contact your insurance company and the other parties insurance company to inform them of the wreck. It is best if you can provide them with a detailed explanation of your injuries as soon as you file the claim. If you do not know the extent of your injuries and need to seek a specialist in the meantime it is okay to give that information to the insurance company later. Make sure to tell the insurance company you will provide that information once it’s available.
If you receive a high volume of calls and letters in the mail pertaining to your car accident this normal. It is recommended to let an attorney answer these correspondences. However, if you plan on answering yourself it is best to give all details including a statement of how the accident occurred, a release of your medical records, etc.
If you choose the Davis Kelin Law Firm, we will not provide a medical release until litigation has started. We also do not provide a statement unless there is a question on how the wreck occurred and a statement will help all parties understand what happened. If your insurance company is the one asking for a statement you have a duty to cooperate. At the very least allow your insurance company to assess your vehicle for damage and a copy of the police report. It is best to have a qualified attorney handle the insurance companies requests.
