A doctor insured by Public Underwriters Liability Insurance Company was at the center of a medical malpractice case that resulted in wrongful death. PULIC refused to defend the doctor for the claims that the families brought against him.

The New Mexico District Court determined that PULIC breached its insurance contract and violated the Unfair Insurance Practices Act in New Mexico. The $52 Million settlement reflects the amount of disregard that was shown to the insured.
